White Fungus + Papaya Sweet Soup Dessert

In such a cooling evening, lets grab a bowl of this Chinese traditional sweet soup dessert just to pamper myself a little bit more….I’m pretty sure not many non-chinese know what is “White Fungus” and it sounds like a “yikes” stuff or so.

Try to ask Wiki and you should get the answer from it and you will notice how good is this White Fungus especially for our health and also for all the ladies out there!

White fungus always being described as the source of natural collagen! What?? COLLAGEN?? Hey ladies out there, interested in this word – COLLAGEN? Yeah! Indeed, this little fungus contains high volume of natural collagen which will help is to maintain our elasticity of our skin and youth and at the same time nourishing our skin…Wow….pretty incredible! Doesn’t it?

Just in case you have no idea how this fungus looks like? See the picture below.

General Description
White fungus is a white, nearly translucent, “trembling” fungus throughout Asia and in warmer climates worldwide. The fungus gets the common name of wood ear for the way it looks on the decaying logs on which it grows. Good-quality snow fungus has a pale, yellowish-white color and a mucilagelike texture. Chinese and Japanese herbalists have used snow fungus for more than 2,000 years, primarily to increase fluids in the body, for dry coughs, and for palpitations. It has been used as a tonic herb and as a beauty enhancer to improve the complexion.

Evidence of Benefit
Snow fungus is an immune stimulant that may help fight infection as seen in cell studies. Laboratory studies have found that it also demonstrates antitumor activity, lowers levels of low-density lipoprotein (LDL, or “bad”) cholesterol, protects the liver, and fights inflammation, and that it may slow the ageing process. Supposedly, if snow fungus is eaten regularly, facial freckles will disappear, although this has not been tested in any scientific fashion.
Benefits of snow fungus for specific health conditions include the following:

    • Atherosclerosis and high cholesterol: In Japan, snow fungus is used to prevent atherosclerosis, in which cholesterol gathers into plaques within the arteries. It does this by lowering total blood cholesterol levels. to date, however only one preliminary clinical study has confirmed the value for snow fungus for this purpose. However, research on snow fungus polysacchairdes as infection-fighters has confirmed that hey help maintain cholesterol levels within the linings of cells, where cholesterol is needed, possibly helping to draw it out of the bloodstream.
    • Cancer: Scientific studies in cells and animals have found that the mucilage-like polysaccharides found in snow fungus fit like keys into receptor sites on certain immune cells. This increased the production of interferon and interleukin-2(IL-2), two important immune-system chemicals, and stimulated the production of germ-eating macrophages. Snow fungus also increases the activity of natural killer (NK) cells and enhances the effectiveness of antibodies. In addition, snow fungus reduces the rate at which cancers spread in a laboratory setting. In order to grow and spread, tumours have to establish their own blood vessel systems. Snow fungus compounds counteract a blood chemical platelet-activating factor (PAF), which makes the blood less likely to clots and spins a fibrin “net” on which blood vessels to serve the tumour can form. None of these actions have been confirmed in humans.

Laboratory tests have demonstrated that snow fungus extracts kill cervical cancer cells, as well as those taken from other types of tumours. Snow fungus is known to sensitize the cervix and uterus to radiation treatment, making that treatment more effective. One medical use of snow fungus is to increase white blood cell counts in people undergoing chemotherapy or radiation treatment for cancer. This is a serious condition, however, so do not use snow fungus in this case without first consulting a physician.

After a long long introduction, today I’m gonna share with you a simple recipe of this dessert.

Ingredients – Serves 1-2 persons

1) 1 petal of high quality white fungus, soaked in plenty of water until it blooms

2) 1/4 organic Papaya

3) Rock Sugar to taste (level of sweetness depends on individual)

* You can consider to put some red dates if you wish to. I did not put red dates due to my health condition.

Cut the papaya into cubes and put in a small ceramic pot.

The White Fungus soaked in the water for at least 30 minutes and now it is bloomed.

Cut the white fungus to small portions and add them together with the papaya in the ceramic pot.

Pour in water and you can put in the rock sugar together OR you can put the rock sugar when the soup is boiled. With this, you can at least taste it as per your need. For me, I have already knew what I expected and hence I just threw them together and boil it using a small electric lunch box cooker.

Rock Sugar

Using the steam method to boil it for 1 hour.

Voila! Done. Drink it slowly while it is still warm and hot……what a beautiful evening….

Well, what is Tribal Fusion Belly Dance? What is the difference between classic belly dance or this one? Interesting question here.

Amalia Maya

Tribal Fusion Belly Dance is a modern form of belly dance which was created by fusing American Tribal Style belly dance and American Cabaret belly dance. Artists frequently incorporate elements from Popping, Hip Hop, ‘Egyptian’ or ‘Cabaret’ belly dance, as well as movement principles from traditional forms such as Flamenco, Kathak, Odissi, and other folkloric and classical dance styles. I’m not gonna talk about this history here. You can always google for it 🙂

How about the costumes? I so crazy with the Tribal Fusion Belly Dance costumes indeed!

Many Tribal Fusion dancers once used the ATS “uniform” as a basis for costuming, the scenario is changing. Additional elements of the costume are strongly influenced by the nature of the fusion – flamenco fusion dancers will wear flamenco skirts, burlesque fusion dancers will wear feathers etc. Costumes are often very elaborate with layers of fabrics, Tulle bi telli, antique tribal jewelry from many cultures, hair ornaments, and permanent body adornment such as tattoos and piercings. At the other extreme, where the fusion has a strong contemporary influence, the costume is pared down to a sleek minimalist style.

Mardi Love pioneered and paved the way for the many of the elements of the more adorned Tribal Fusion costumes that are popular today. After working with the more minimalist Urban Tribal, she helped sculpt the intricate, vibrant, and complicated costumes worn by The Indigo. She is the original artist who adapted Rajasthani cowrie falls for the hair, using colorful, hand dyed yarn to braid cowrie shells together. She also created one of the most popular belt styles of the mid-to late 2000s by combining Indian mirrored “shisha” with Afghan Guls (beaded medallions), and adding colorful yarn fringe (such as Colinette Pointe 5). She also popularized the use of Talhakimt in necklaces, which became a huge sensation in the global Tribal Fusion marketplace.

I can’t wait to share a few of my favorite Tribal Fusion Belly Dance Performances here! Take a look!

Rice Cooker Recipe- Carrot Walnut Raisin Cake

Hey guys, how are you? It’s been a long time I didn’t blog! Today gonna share with you my first trial rice cooker recipe- Carrot Walnut Raisin Cake!

Bought my high tech rice cooker a couple years ago and been stored in the cupboard all these years after I used it once to cook white rice. Only realized that I can use this rice cooker to cook so many different things! So impressed!
So, you should have known the main ingredients in this cake just from the name itself:

Now, let’s take a look at the ingredients:

1.5 cups flour (I used Multi purpose flour)
2 tsp baking powder
2 carrots ( grated)
1/2 cup sugar (I used organic brown sugar to reduce the sweetness)
100g butter (melted)
3 eggs
1 tsp cinnamon powder
1 tsp vanilla essence
1/4 cup walnut ( I used more than this just because I like walnut)
1/2 cup raisins

1. Sift the flour, cinnamon and baking powder together in one bowl. Put aside.
2. Melt the butter in a pan. Skip this step if using oil.
3. In a separate bowl, combine the sugar, eggs and butter/oil together. Combine well.

4. Add the egg/butter/sugar mix to the flour bowl in step 1. Mix.

5. Add grated carrot and walnuts. Combine and mix well.
6. Grease the rice cooker pot so the cake doesn’t stick.
7. Pour the cake batter into the rice cooker.

8. Cook in the rice cooker for 1.5 hours (usually two cycles of the rice cooker). I always have to reset the rice cooker again after the beeper goes off the first time.
9. Once cooked, leave to sit for about 5 minutes, remove from rice cooker and pop into a toaster oven for 5 minutes (optional).

Natural Food That Can Help You Lose Weight

Have you thought of what sort of food can help you lose weight naturally? Or you just tried all sort of slimming pills, detox drinks or injection? Why not consider to eat healthily and naturally?

Below are eight simple foods that can help you to lose weight naturally and keep it off for good as well.

This is one the most outstanding greens for very good reason. Not only does it offer your body quality nutrients and a lot of fiber, but it’s so versatile.

Start your day off right with a green smoothie (made from fresh kale and other nutrient-dense fresh greens) or make a healthy kale salad for lunch!

One of the favorite ways to enjoy kale is to wash and dry a big plate of kale (with a dash of sea salt and lemon juice) and then grill it to make crispy kale chips.

When we talk about simple foods, no list is complete without blueberries. Though all berries are good for you, blueberries stand out, due to their high concentration of antioxidants. They make for the perfect addition to almost any meal — salads, smoothies, or shakes.

Lemons can support natural detoxification and reduce sugar cravings, enabling your body to heal itself naturally.

Try adding lemon juice to a glass of water first thing in the morning or squeezing fresh lemon juice over your salads for a natural, zesty dressing. You will love what lemons and other citrus fruits can do for you.

4) EGG

Eggs are an excellent source of protein and therefore can play a major role in supporting natural weight loss. They’re a great form of slow release energy to keep you going throughout the day. You may try to add hard boiled eggs to a fresh green salad with any other chopped up vegetables that you have in the refrigerator. They also make healthy travel snacks.

Rich in fiber, loaded with antioxidants, and overall an amazing vegetable, broccoli is a great choice to include in your diet. You can use broccoli in so many different dishes or just serve it on it’s own, steamed with a dash of sea salt and fresh lemon juice.

Oatmeal is loaded with fiber and is a great source of complex carbohydrates to keep you feeling fuller for longer. A bowl of cooked oatmeal sprinkled with cinnamon is a great way to start your day. If you are gluten-sensitive, make sure to buy gluten-free oatmeal only.

Salmon is another source of good fat, and is also an excellent choice for protein. It’s a very versatile food that can be enjoyed by itself as a snack or served with fresh salad and vegetables. The good fats in wild salmon keeps your brain healthy and will give you a natural energy boost and support weight loss.

Avocados are the perfect example of a food high in good fats, and are something that you can eat in abundance, since they keep you feeling nourished and satisfied.

Eating a diet that is high in fat (unlike one that is high in sugar) allows your body to sense when you have eaten enough food and to let you know when you are full. Listening to and connecting to your body in this intuitive way will allow you to best know what to eat and when.

What you may not know about Soybean

Do you like soybean milk? Especially for those ladies out there who wish to have fair skin with nice complexion; for those who like to have more protein; everyone knows how good can soybean bring for our health. But, there is always a “but” when you consume too much on certain food/drink.
Consuming soy foods such as soy protein is LIKELY SAFE. Taking soy dietary supplements also seems to be safe for most people when used short-term (up to six months). Soy can cause some mild side effects such as constipation, bloating, and nausea. It can also cause allergic reactions involving rash and itching in some people.

Long-term use of high doses of soy dietary supplements is POSSIBLY UNSAFE. There is concern that taking high doses might cause abnormal tissue growth in the uterus.

Special Precautions & Warnings:
Pregnancy and breast-feeding: Soy protein is LIKELY SAFE in pregnancy and during breast-feeding when consumed in amounts normally found in food. Higher doses during pregnancy might harm development of the baby. Not enough is known about the safety of higher doses during breast-feeding. Stay on the safe side and avoid larger doses.

Children: Soy is LIKELY SAFE for children when used in amounts commonly found in food or infant formula. Using soy formula does not seem to cause health or reproductive problems later in life. However, soymilk that is not designed for infants should not be used as a substitute for infant formula. Regular soymilk could lead to nutrient deficiencies.

Soy is POSSIBLY UNSAFE when used as an alternative to cow’s milk in children who are allergic to cow’s milk. Although soy protein-based infant formulas are often promoted for children with milk allergy, these children are often allergic to soy as well.

Don’t give children soy in amounts larger than what is found in food or formula. Researchers don’t know whether soy is safe for children at higher doses.

1) Cystic fibrosis: Soymilk can interfere with the way children with cystic fibrosis process protein. Don’t give these children soy products.

2) Breast cancer: The effects of soy in people with breast cancer are unclear. Some research finds that soy might “feed” certain breast cancers because it can act like estrogen. Other studies have found that soy seems to protect against breast cancer. The difference in effects might have something to do with the amount taken. Because there isn’t enough reliable information about the effects of soy in women with breast cancer, a history of breast cancer, or a family history of breast cancer, it’s best to avoid using soy until more is known.

3) Endometrial cancer: Long-term use of concentrated soy isoflavone tablets might increase the occurrence of precancerous changes in the tissue lining the uterus. Don’t take concentrated soy isoflavone supplements if you have endometrial cancer.

4) Kidney disease: There is some concern that soy products might increase the risk of kidney stones because they contain large amounts of a group of chemicals called oxalates. Oxalates are the main ingredient in kidney stones. Another concern is that people with serious kidney disease aren’t able to process some of the chemicals in soy. This could lead to dangerously high levels of these chemicals. If you have kidney disease or a history of kidney stones, avoid taking large amounts of soy.

5) Urinary bladder cancer: Soy products might increase the chance of getting bladder cancer. Avoid soy foods if you have bladder cancer or a high risk of getting it (family history of bladder cancer).

6) Under-active thyroid (hypothyroidism): There is a concern that taking soy might make this condition worse.

7) Asthma: People with asthma are more likely to be allergic to soy hulls. Avoid using soy products.

8)Hay fever (allergic rhinitis): People with hay fever are more likely to be allergic to soy hulls.

Scientists in China have found that a naturally-occurring ingredient of soy beans, increasingly sold as substitutes for dairy-based food, interferes with a part of the male reproductive system involved in sperm production.

There is already evidence to suggest that soy beans contain natural chemicals that mimic the effect of female sex hormones.

Soy contains genistein, known to interact with the ‘receptor’ molecules on cells designed to respond to oestrogens.

A new study by Ren-Shan Ge of the Wenzhou Medical College in China found that genistein could interfere with the production of vital enzymes involved in producing sperm.

“Following ingestion, soy isoflavones are known to reach the reproductive organs. Thus, excessive exposure to agents that exhibit oestrogenic activity may affect male reproductive tract developments and functions,” the Independent quoted the researchers as saying.

“With regard to this concern, it has been estimated the genistein and daidzein can reach high concentrations in infants who consume large amounts of soy-based products,” they added.

The concentrations of genistein used in the study are roughly equivalent to the levels that can build up in the human body following a diet rich in soy products.

Based on those researches, I guess overdose on any kind of food/drink is still not good for our health. The most importance is EAT SMART!

10 Multi-grains Porridge

I heard about the wonderful of 10 Multi-grains porridge lately from one of the article posted in FB. This is the formula of living mentioned by one of a very old monk in Shao Lin Temple. He claimed that he is eating a bowl of 10 Multi- grains porridge per day to maintain his health.
I have been trying to cook this porridge started last week on daily basis except weekend. I brought this to my office and this will be my lunch of the day. Frankly, in order to maintain this as my lunch is kind of difficult as there are ton of delicious food out there in various restaurants 🙂

But I’m trying to make it different everyday just to drive my attention. Today, I tried to cook this with some broccoli, black-eye peas with a pinch of sea salt and olive oil. Not bad! Taste at least not that plain.

According to the scientific analysis from the ingredient of “Ten-Grain rice porrige”, this meal contains over one hundred beneficial nutrients to human health, such as vitamin B group (including B1, B2, B6, B9, B12), vitamin C, A, E, K, D, minerals (including calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium), oligo-elements (including zinc, molybdenum, manganese), enzymes, anti-oxidants, amino acid. The biological function of this meal include removal of thrombus (a clot of blood in vessel), nerve relax, anti-constipation, anti-hypertension, relieve of skin disease, anti-insomnia. The most important issue is that this meal is derived from 100% natural food source. It won’t cause any side effect compared to the current medicine.

The recipe of Ten-Grain rice porridge is as followed:

Brown rice; Black sweet rice; Millet; Wheat; Buckwheat; Euryales ferox(Foxnut barley); Oat; Lotus seed; Rolled oat; Coix seed (Job’s Tear seed).

1. Mix equal amount of each ingredient (as shown above);
2. Wash one cup of grain mixture with water, two times;
3. Add seven cup of water and one cup of clean grain mixture into a saucepan;
4. Boil and stir occasionally;
5. Reduce heat but allow grain mixture to remain at a brisk simmer;
6. Place lid on pan, leaving it slightly open so the porridge doesn’t bubble up and spill over;
7. Continue cooking for additional 2 hr or until all ingredients are completely soft.
8. The porridge is ready to eat. (You may add brown sugar or raisins to modify taste.)

Genmaicha Tea Benefits

Genmaicha Tea is one of my top pick after meal tea lately. I like the taste of Japanese green tea and at the same time the aromatic taste of fried brown rice melted perfectly with green tea… Hmmm.. What a wonderful feeling!

Genmaicha tea is known to help in digestion especially heavy meal, anti-oxidant and many many more benefits.. It is really a refreshing tea to be served in the late afternoon after an hectic busy morning. Agree?

Here are 4 from one of the most really important well being benefits that you simply get from consuming Genmaicha Tea:

1. anti-oxidant home – A tea is by no implies a wholesome consume devoid of its well-known content articles of antioxidants. Even although Genmaicha tea has only a little amount of brown rice that offers it its distinctive flavor, it retains every one of the benefits found in other green tea with one another with just one of them could be the anti-oxidant property. It assists improve the immune system, detoxifies the liver and safeguards tissue from damaging. anti-oxidants help cleanse the method from toxic materials.

2. decrease danger of Cancer – A research reveals that catechins present in Genmaicha tea can restrain mestasis or even the distribute of tumor cells.

3. pounds great loss – if you actually are longing to lose some surplus weight, usage of tea will help you achieve it. How to Drink Green Tea Without the Side Effects

Though green tea has a lot of health benefits, it can also cause side effects like jitteriness and upset stomach. Follow these simple steps to have the best possible experience with your green tea.

1) Drink green tea tea when it’s freshly made but slightly cooled. Scalding tea can damage your digestive system. Moreover, recent studies suggest that too much hot tea can promote throat cancer. Conversely, compounds in tea like catechins, theanine, and vitamins C and B diminish over time through oxidation, so the health benefits are strongest with fresh tea. Old tea can also harbor bacteria, especially since its antibacterial properties diminish with time.

2) Brew the same tea leaves in moderation. With each successive infusion, cancerous substances in the leaves themselves (often pesticides) are drawn out.

3) Avoid tea that’s excessively concentrated. Too-strong tea contains huge amounts of caffeine and polyphenols. The excess of caffeine can cause tremors and heart palpitations, and too many polyphenols can cause indigestion.

4) Make sure that tea doesn’t conflict with any medications or supplements that you’re taking. The compounds in tea can interact with certain substances. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for confirmation.

5) Don’t drink too many cups! The United Kingdom Tea Council recommends drinking not more than 6 cups of tea a day. For the best health benefits, 3 to 4 cups is recommended.

6) Drink tea an hour before or after meals. Certain compounds in tea inhibit the absorption of calcium and non-heme iron. Drinking too much tea can worsen the symptoms of those prone to iron deficiency. Putting milk in your tea can cancel out the problem of calcium absorption, the oxalate in the tea bonds to the calcium in the milk rather than the calcium in your food.

Last but not least, for ladies out there please do not drink green tea or Genmaicha Tea during menstrual period. According to Chinese sensei, green tea / genmaicha tea is quite a cooling tea by nature. It will definitely brings more harm to you if you drink this during this time.
